In 1990, the Missouri School Boards’ Association established this student scholarship program in memory John. T. Belcher, who was instrumental in developing innovative financial programs for Missouri school districts.  The learning environment for thousands of Missouri’s public schools students was improved as a result of his work.

Presently, FutureBuilders, MSBA’s educational foundation, supports the program which awards close to $15,000 in scholarships to students in MSBA’s member districts annually.  A $750 scholarship is awarded to a winner in each of MSBA’s 17 regions.  From that group a statewide winner is selected and receives an additional $750.  Applicants are judged on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular activities and the quality of an essay.

During the 21 years of the program, over $230,000 in scholarships have been awarded Missouri students.
