Invite Your Legislator to School

Don’t just tell legislators about your successful education programs, show them! Invite your legislators to your school!

MSBA’s Education Foundation, FutureBuilders, and MO-CASE are partnering to promote this critical event. Following are some tips for a successful meeting:

1. Meetings with legislators should be coordinated by the superintendent, special education director and board president (and others deemed important to this event). The invitation to legislators should be extended by the superintendent or board president. Contact information for legislators can be found at: www.house.mo.gov or www.senate.mo.gov.
2. Prepare a hand-out of positive statistics about your education programs to share with legislators.
3. Plan a brief visit (no more than 2 hours) for legislators – include a tour of exemplary classrooms, etc. Highlight the good news about your schools (e.g., advancements made, services provided, specialized or innovative services provided, etc.).
4. Send a thank you to legislators immediately following the meeting. Download a sample letter.
5. Provide a summary of your meeting to MSBA’s FutureBuilders and MO-CASE using the attached form.
6. Continue to be a resource of information to legislators – be sure to share the good news about your education programs throughout the year.
